A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Gun Guys » Sensible Gun Legislation and the Second Amendment
For as long as there have been guns in America, there have been gun regulations. Indeed, in the decades after the adoption of the Second Amendment, gun regulations became more restrictive, not less. The Second Amendment links the right to keep and bear arms with the civic obligation to participate in a well-regulated militia. It has nothing to do with the use of firearms for self-defense, hunting or target shooting. In a society that well-nigh worships violence, no sane, sensible citizen can fail to see why unrestricted gun ownership is suicide. What then does that make Wayne LaPierre and his NRA brownshirts?
