...after the horse has escaped and long since been turned into glue and dog food. Maybe, just maybe, had Dubya, Wolfowitz, Rummy, Doug Feith and all the other "stupidest fucking people in the world" paid attention to the generals who had already war-gamed the debacle in Iraq, they wouldn't have been in such a rush to "go to war with the army they had." Maybe, just maybe, they would have decided it wasn't such a hot idea after all. Maybe, just maybe, 1,000,000 or so dead Iraqis would be alive today, along with 4,000 or so coalition soldiers and Marines.

If U.S. combat forces withdraw from Iraq in the near future, three developments would be likely to unfold. Majority Shiites would drive Sunnis out of ethnically mixed areas west to Anbar province. Southern Iraq would erupt in civil war between Shiite groups. And the Kurdish north would solidify its borders and invite a U.S. troop presence there.
