What's the point of having a Constitution, anyway?

By now it's obvious that the soulless Rethugs would happily scrap the Constitution they so gleefully abused in the Clenis Wars provided they get to remain in power. Laws are for suckers and Democrats.

The setting included a deliberately arranged tableau of an empty chair for Ms. Miers, even though the committee was told the previous day she would not appear. Staff aides prepared two signs with her name and chose the one with larger type to put in front of the microphone before the empty chair. They placed a bottle of water as a prop on the table.

“To date, we have received credible evidence relating to potential obstruction of justice, false statements to Congress and unlawful politicization of the Department of Justice,” said Representative John Conyers Jr., the chairman of the full committee, in defense of Congress’s insistence on questioning White House officials.

Representative Chris Cannon of Utah, the ranking Republican on the subcommittee, said Democrats were bent on a “pointless constitutional showdown” to demonstrate their clout as the majority party. Mr. Cannon said there was not nearly enough evidence of criminality to persuade a court to uphold the subpoena against an invocation of executive privilege.

That wouldn't be THE Chris Cannon, would it? He of the "Iglesias got fired 'cuz he was an idiot" fame? Fuckwad.
