Dumb and Dubya

Think Progress calls bullshit on Dubya’s most recent prevarications regarding illegal wiretaps. Their thesis is quite simple: if all we were doing was monitoring incoming calls from known al Qaeda operatives, the FISA court would have undoubtedly approved. Why, then, the need for an end-around?

TP also presents a discussion of why illegal wiretapping actually hinders the GWOT: tainted evidence obtained illegally would in all likelihood be inadmissible. So, rather than stay within the legal limits of FISA and the Fourth Amendment, the assministration chose to jeopardize any convictions they might actually have a chance at in a power-grabbing snit. Wonderful.

MISERABLE
FAILURE.
