Scalito Thread

Feel free to post any and all comments regarding Alito and the hearings. I’ll be posting updates when the boss isn’t looking.

UPDATE 12:09 PM--Specter's opening statement appears to be deliberately opaque, but tilted slightly to the right...

UPDATE 12:15 PM--I take it back. Specter is now trying to paint Scalito as another Souter. [UPDATED UPDATE] ...but he seems to be applying that only to Roe... Specter just highlighted the importance of checks and balances.

UPDATE 12:20 PM--Leahy is laying down the law. UPDATED UPDATE--Leahy is also laying the groundwork for close questioning of Alito relative to his views on presidential power...will he be independent or a surrogate of the executive? Slaps Dubya for not nominating a woman or a minority to replace O'Connor.

UPDATE 12:30 PM--Leahy's mention of how Dubya withdrew Miers based on criticism from a narrow faction provides rationale for denying Alito an up or down vote...Miers didn't even get a hearing...

UPDATE 12:35 PM--Down the Hatch! Orrin uses the Ginsburg dodge to rationalize Sammy skirting pointed questions. "Alito comes to us with a record that is broad, long, and deep." So is a flood of bullshit.

UPDATE 12:45 PM--Ted Kennedy smackdown! Once again, emphasis on "unitary executive." "Sammy boy, you hoodwinked us 15 years ago!" "Average Americans have had a hard time in Judge Alito's court."

UPDATE 12:50 PM--Your Ass is Grassley is up and the smile has returned to Sammy's face. Kennedy bitchslapped it off, but now it's back.

UPDATE 12:55 PM--Grassley's wiping the jizz off his mouth after sucking off Alito in front of the whole country.

UPDATE 1:00 PM--Joe Biden's up. "Elephant in the room"--pun intended? "People aren't making this up" regarding whay they're concerned about you.

UPDATE 1:05 PM--C'mon Joe..."states' rights" isn't a valid debate, it's a racist dodge...

UPDATE 1:10 PM--Joe shoves Specter's "minuet" analogy back down his throat; also brings up Miers.

UPDATE 1:12 PM--John Kyl's turn to play fluffer.

OK---back to work!
