About those visitors...

I know that some bloggers have reported getting visits from .mil and .gov domains as I have, but I wonder if these visits represent a deliberate attempt to keep an eye on potential "subversives" or if they're something a bit less sinister. In this current climate of government spying, I'm inclined to believe the former, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any ideas on how we in the blogosphere might be able to compare notes on a more formal basis? Not that we can do anything about it, but it would be nice to have some advance warning before the nice men in the trenchcoats come to drag us off to Gitmo.
