Buchananazification

This is, of course, Fox News, but you can be certain the other networks won't want to be left out of the Buchanan book blitz. Matt Lauer will no doubt tell Pat how much fun it is having him on to push his delusion du jour. This will be followed, for sure, by Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and David Horowitz decrying the "far-left" uproar over Pat's racist tome as a PC, knee-jerk, America-hating refusal to face reality. And the assholes hosting them will nod like the empty bobbleheads they are.

In the meantime, no one in the "traditional media" will point out the eerie similarity between Buchanan's twisted thesis and the pre-civil war rhetoric in America's South warning of the Apocalypse should abolitionists prevail. In fact, any advance in racial, gender, or ethnic equality in America's history has been withstood by conservatives predicting the End of the World as We Know It. Abolition, woman's suffrage, desegregation, inter-racial marriage--all have been seen as harbingers of doom by the Right. Yet America has survived; not only that, it has grown and prospered. Now, immigration and gay rights are the new "Turks at the Gate", threatening the destruction of all we hold dear. Grow up and get lives, you assholes! Fifty years from now Americans will look back at you with the same contempt most of us (the sane ones) feel for skinheads and the Klan. Oops...sorry--you ARE the skinheads and the Klan!

Think Progress » Buchanan: Hispanic Immigrants Not Assimilating Into America Because They Embrace ‘Rap Culture’

BECKEL: Pat, you say in the Hispanic culture in the Southwest — it is a culture that will take over the Southwest and essentially make the Southwest of the United States part of America but not really part of America. Let me ask you this — the Irish and Italian came to New York and brought their culture here. Eastern Europeans went to the north-northwest part of the Midwest, the Germans and Scottish went to the Appalachians and brought their culture with them. What’s different?

BUCHANAN: One thing that’s different in the year 2050 there will be 102 million people of Hispanic descent, primarily Mexican, wholly concentrated in the American Southwest. That’s one thing. The second thing is Mexicans, unlike Irish or German folks, never claimed America as their country. They owned it. 58% of Mexicans believe the southwest belongs to them. The third thing is, they were assimilated. There powerful assimilation movement in this country that does not exist right now and in so the point of the thing is, they are not assimilated into America. Many Hispanics, as a matter of fact, you know what culture they are assimilating to? — the rap culture, the crime culture, anti-cops, all the rest of it.
