Here we go again
If this is for real (you see how cynical all this constant lying about terror plots can make you?), then thank God they stopped it. But you can bet your Aunt Tilly's bonnet the Bush and Blair governments will milk this for all it's worth. You may even hear someone say something like this: "If we had elected a Democrat in 2004, we never would have stopped this." Deep, wide, and bottomless is the memory hole...
Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Plot to blow up aircraft thwarted
A plot to kill thousands of people by detonating explosions in a "wave" of attacks on up to 10 transatlantic flights from UK airports was disrupted overnight.Unprecedented? Hardly. A simple Google search leads straight to this Wikipedia article:
The home secretary, John Reid, said today that the alleged terror plot could have caused civilian casualties on an "unprecedented scale".
Operation Bojinka--Airline bombing plotAs I recall the president at the time this plan was thwarted was a Democrat. Will we hear Tweety ask his next Republican guest, "Who was president in 1995? You know. Bill Clinton!"
The next plan would have involved at least five Al-Qaeda operatives, including Yousef, Khan, Shah and two more unknown operatives. Starting on January 21, 1995 and ending on January 22, 1995, they would set the bombs on 11 United States-bound airliners that had stopovers all around East Asia and Southeast Asia. All of the flights had two legs. The bombs would be planted inside life jackets under seats on the first leg, when each bomber would disembark. He would then board one or two more flights and repeat. After all of the bombers planted bombs on all of the flights, each man would then catch flights to Lahore, Pakistan. The men never needed U.S. visas, as they only would have stayed on the planes on their first legs in Asia.
