Pluto makes the cut!

And it brings with it 3 of its friends.

The Raw Story | NYT: Astronomers draft resolution for 12 planet solar system; Pluto still in the mix

Astronomers have drafted a resolution which would change the number of planets in our solar system from nine to twelve, according to a story slated for Wednesday's New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.

"Think our solar system has nine planets?" writes Dennis Overbye for the Times. "Try 12."

"That's the current number being proposed on Wednesday by leading astronomers, a move that would change what billions of schoolchildren are taught about their corner of the cosmos," Overbye writes.

"Much-maligned Pluto would remain a planet -- and its largest moon plus two other heavenly bodies would join Earth's neighborhood -- under a draft resolution to be formally presented to the International Astronomical Union, the arbiter of what is and isn't a planet," the article continues.
