Think Progress » Buchanan Argues For Immigration Moratorium To Preserve White Dominance

In his new book, State of Emergency, Pat Buchanan argues for “an immediate moratorium on all immigration.” Why? To preserve the dominance of the white race in America. Buchanan explains on pg. 11:
America faces an existential crisis. If we do not get control of our borders, by 2050 Americans of European descent will be a minority in the nation their ancestors created and built. No nation has ever undergone so radical a demographic transformation and survived.
My, oh my, where to start. Buchanan sounds the same tocsin of cultural annihilation that was rung in the antebellum South by one of slavery's leading apologists:
In [George] Fitzhugh’s view, abolitionists sought nothing less than the reorganization of American society. They wished “to abolish...or greatly modify, the relations of husband and wife, parent and child, the institution of private property of all kinds, but especially separate ownership of lands, and the institution of Christian churches as now existing in America.

If they are successful, Fitzhugh warned, government, law, religion, and marriage would be among the casualties. Just as abolitionists could not recognize the South apart from its support for human servitude, Fitzhugh perceived Northern social ills as by-products of a free society, whose principles were at war with “all government, all subordination, all order.” If slavery is wrong, he reasoned, then all human government is wrong.
Buchanan's bigoted bullshit is nothing more (or less) than a dusted-off version of the hateful hyperbole wielded by defenders of slavery a century and a half ago. Have we learned so little after all these years?
