Is there a doctor in the House?

Is there a doctor in the House?
Not like the one in the Senate…
A physician like Hippocrates
Who first, does no harm
And then, tells no lies
A caring physician
Who would bind up the wounds
Of our bleeding nation
Not at all like the office-holders
The quacks
Who sit on the right side of the aisle
Right, though wrong.
They rend where they should heal
Pollute where they should purify
Septic hands
And septic tongues
All they touch
And all words they speak
They leave diseased and putrefying.

Is there a doctor in the House?
A healer who would nurse Lady Liberty
Back to health and strength
Before it’s too late
Before she gasps out her last
Along with all the hopes
Together with all the dreams
Of true Americans
From Jefferson on?

There is no doctor in the House
And none in the Senate
Only hitmen
And morticians
Who would bury Liberty
In the potter’s field
In an unmarked grave
Like a dog
Pissing on the last clod of earth
Thrown in her gray face.

Our charge, then
Is to ensure that there are in fact
Doctors in the House
And in the Senate
And no more hitmen
No more morticians
Am I Right?
No
But I am correct.
