Unholy Joe

Let's see what Mr. Integrity does with this. And by the way, Dangerstein, there are a few important issues other than Iraq at the end of this article where Loserman voted with the Rethuggees.

The Raw Story | Religious leaders target Lieberman in torture debate

A coalition of religious leaders in Connecticut has come together to pressure US Senators Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and Christopher Dodd (D-CT) to make come out in opposition to torture, RAW STORY has learned.

An event to publicize the campaign will be held in Hartford tomorrow.

The push is being organized by Reclaiming the Prophetic Voice (RTPV), a statewide interfaith network of religious leaders and people of faith established in 2002

The call for the Senator's support comes as the Senate debates changes in the law that would allow, according to a statement issued by the coalition, "the CIA to use interrogation techniques that are not permitted by the Geneva Conventions."

"Torture is a moral issue" said the Rev. Allie Perry, a member of the RTPV said in a statement today. "It is also a profoundly religious issue, for it degrades the image of God in each person."

"Nothing less than the soul of our nation is at stake," Perry argues, "not to mention the rule of law.”

A member of the group's Steering Committee, John Humphries, said that Senator Lieberman's statements on Monday opposing the President's proposals were "a positive step, but Senator Lieberman has most often voted on the wrong side of the torture issue."

Lieberman was one of five Democrats in the Senate who voted to strip the right to habeas corpus for prisoners at Guantanamo. The group also noted that Lieberman was one of six Democrats who voted in favor of the confirmation of Albert Gonzales as Attorney General.
