Orthogonality

The Right may be wrong, but the angle, dear Watson, is right. As in 90 degrees; orthogonal. Capitalism and democracy aren't synonymous; they are distinct systems - orthogonal systems, if I may put it so. Axiomatically, the intersection of democracy and capitalism is the null set. Capitalism can flourish under authoritarian systems of rule like monarchies and dictatorships - it doesn't need the vox populi to keep its shareholders happy. In fact, it can be argued that capitalism is antithetical to true democracy; I will, however, leave such arguments to others. In the meantime, consider the fact that moneyed elites like the Hiltons and DuPonts have outlived both the Gilded Age and the New Deal; they have prospered in weather both fair and foul. So, as the textbooks say, the proof is left as an exercise for the reader. And, orthogonally speaking, life sucks (for the vast majority of our brothers and sisters) and people (REAL people, just like you and me) DIE. But you knew that (if you were paying any FUCKING attention, that is).
