And he may be right

To McCain, the truth is expendable -- chicagotribune.com
But McCain has concluded that a fact-based case about Obama isn't enough to prevail in November. So he has chosen to smear his opponent with ridiculous claims that he thinks the American people are gullible enough to believe.

He has charged repeatedly that his opponent is willing to lose a war to win an election. What's McCain willing to lose to become president? Nothing so consequential as a war. Just his soul.
We really are a nation of gullible rubes, rushing off to buy the latest shiny trinket just because the TeeVee tells us to. We're too busy consuming to waste time with trifles like reading and thinking. Besides, if we stopped rushing around in the pursuit of "happyness," we might make the mistake of reflecting on just how empty our lives are. No, better just to keep running. Too bad we're running downhill on a road that empties out into heavy traffic. No matter - we won't have to worry about it until we get splattered all over the grill of an 18-wheeler doing about 85.
