Oh, it's quite clear that McCain's choice of a running mate whose only qualification is her ultra-rightwing politics means that he's understands perfectly where he needs to shore up support. But as it becomes more and more clear that the McCain campaign didn't bother to vet the person who would be a 72 year old heartbeat away from the presidency, and since she's only had about 15 minutes at "foot of the master" to learn how to stonewall the press, it's also clear that keeping Palin away from a skeptical media is more important than appeasing every rightwing group that forced Palin on McCain in the first place.
