Fourteen days ago, it seemed plausible that by the end of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Barack Obama would have put enough distance between himself and rival John McCain that he could be considered the clear favorite as the presidential race entered its final two months.

And what precisely has changed, other than McCain's choice of an inexperienced liar* with an ego the size of her state? We really are a stupid bunch of brainless clots, we Americans.

UPDATE: I just noticed an ambiguity in my post. She appears to be an experienced liar; it's everything else she's inexperienced at.
