President Professes No Doubts on Iraq

President Bush said today that if he had any doubts about U.S. success in Iraq, he would pull out U.S. troops immediately. But he said he harbors no such doubts, and he indicated that there would be no "complete withdrawal" while he remains president.



In a news conference at the White House, Bush also rejected the idea that civil war has broken out in Iraq, denied that he wanted to invade that country from the beginning of his presidency and defended the performance of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in the face of calls for his resignation.
