...roughly the percentage of the 'Murkan public suffering from cranio-rectal inversion. There is cause for optimism, however: 76% of us are smart enough (and honest enough) to admit that things are pretty fucked up. One obvious question, though-- why aren't the presidential polling numbers 76% Obama, 24% McCain? McSame, after all, is all for doing 'zackly what we've been doing for the past 7 years, that is, precisely those policies that have screwed everything up so badly. Why the disconnect?

It is the lowest number on record since 1980 and the third time in four decades that the number has dropped so low.
Recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. polling has shown a steady drop in the country's mood. In April 2007, 51 percent said things in the country were going badly. A year later, 70 percent reiterated that position.
