ANCHORAGE, Sept. 8 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.

As one who travels frequently on business, I know I would have my ass handed to me if I tried to pull a fast one even a tenth as speedy as Palin's per-diem boondoggle. But then in my line of work there are actual clients and actual auditors with actual responsibilities. Must be nice.
